Beauty Bites: Oven-Baked Salmon and Leek Beauty Cakes

Salmon_Leek_Cakes

Wild salmon — not farm-raised — is one of the best #beautyfoods on the market for omega-3 fatty acids, which keeps skin super supple and hydrated. Salmon also has selenium, a mineral that protects the skin from sun exposure. In most instances, opt for wild salmon. Why? Environmental groups such as Seafood Watch have put nearly all farmed salmon on their "to avoid” list. Best in salmon: Wild Alaskan Salmon for having the lowest toxin levels.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb red Wild Alaskan salmon | omega-3 fatty acids keeps skin supple + hydrated
  • 1 cup cooked sweet potato pureed | vitamin A repairs and smoothes skin
  • 2 large eggs, beaten | biotin protects against dry skin
  • ½ cup almond flour | vitamin E protects from free radicals
  • ½ cup fresh parsley leaves, minced | parsley reduces fine lines + wrinkles
  • ½ cup leeks, very thinly sliced | gluthatione prevents + repairs damage
  • 1 T Old Bay Seasoning
  • Salt, hot sauce, paprika, ground black pepper, lemon juice - to taste
  • 2 T ghee or grass-fed butter

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425F.
  2. Lightly puree fish, eggs, almond flour, parsley, leeks, seasoning in a mixing bowl. Mix well, refrigerate for 10 min.
  3. Add pureed sweet potato to the mixture.
  4. Brush parchment paper with melted ghee or butter.
  5. Use ⅓ cup to scoop cakes and drop onto parchment paper. Should be 2 ½ inches wide and 1 inch thick.
  6. Brush tops of cakes with ghee or butter.
  7. Bake 20 minutes.
  8. Serve and savor with sauce of choice!

Beauty Bites: Rawclates 100% Organic Raw Chocolate

Beauty Bites: Rawclates 100% Organic Raw Chocolate

lemon_blueberry_vegan_chocolate

When life gives you lemons... make chocolate! This can-do spirit of creativity is what inspired Hadara Slok, owner of Rawclates, to step into the kitchen. "I started Rawclates when I was a single mom, just looking to survive. But rather than just finding a second job, I wanted to do something I loved, something that excited me." says Slok.

Our Om Beauty Kitchen foodies had the pleasure of sampling these chocolates, and it's easy to see why they are the ultimate #beautyfood indulgence! They're 100% organic, raw, gluten-free, dairy & soy free (score one for the vegans in the house!) non-GMO, kosher, and fair trade. Plus, the presentation is stunning with immaculate attention to detail -- all handmade in Brooklyn, NY.

We enjoyed the refreshing Lemon Blueberry Ganache Truffles with floral green tea & fresh lemon. The genius, combination of flavors inspired us to make this infused beauty ice to keep us hydrated all summer long!

lavender_blueberry_raw_chocolate

(Oh! And we can't leave out the Dark Chocolate Lavender & Blueberry Cream Truffles made with fair trade, single origin Equidorian cacao!) "YUM" would be the understatement of the century.

P.s. If you're hosting a tea party or brunch gathering, spritz the room with an alcohol free Om Aroma & Co. Toning Mist in similar fragrant notes to what's on your menu (we used Lemongrass for this tasting). The olfactory sense is inextricably connected to taste buds -- why not combine the two!?  Not only does it create a nice aromatic ambiance, but also prepares your guest's palette!

Beauty Hacks: Lemon & Blueberry Infused Ice for Antioxidant Hydration

Beauty Hacks: Lemon & Blueberry Infused Ice for Antioxidant Hydration

lemon_blueberry_beauty_water

Looking for a fresh twist on boring ice water? Infuse with fruit & herbs! We are swooning over this delicious lemon, blueberry, & parsley combination inspired by these organic lemon blueberry chocolates. Simply add pieces of fruit and roughly torn herbs into ice molds and allow to freeze overnight.

Another #beautyhack application is to massage infused ice cubes over Om Aroma & Co. Pearl Cleansing Cream for an elevated cleansing experience. Savor Spa Esthetician Skin Coach, Jess Arnaudin, says this is great for inflamed skin, "whether from a genetic condition like rosacea, or just environmental conditions, like a sweaty subway commute! You can even apply the ice cubes to activate acupressure points on the face for added therapy."

One person's trash is an eco-beauty's treasure! We love 'up-cycling' used green tea sachets by turning them into a chilled eye compress. After steeping tea for the Melon Mint Cooler, toss used tea bags into freezer and allow them to cool for 15 minutes.

Refreshing Eye Compress Ritual:

  • Apply Om Aroma & Co. Caviar Eye Creamcaffeine micro-circulates to reduce dark circles
  • Close eyes & apply chilled green tea bags | anti-oxidants repair; cools & depuffs swelling
  • Meditate for 10 minutes! Allow yourself these moments of rest & restoration.

Beauty Bites: Homemade Cinnamon Applesauce

Beauty Bites: Homemade Cinnamon Applesauce

applesauce.jpg

Applesauce is made of several #beautyfoods, including it's namesake, apples and cinnamon! Apples are high in vitamin C and naturally contain AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) malic acid, making them a great seasonal source for healthy skin. Cinnamon is good for detoxing because of its warming properties. This vasodilation microcirculates blood and lymph bringing vital nutrients to the surface of skin. Use this recipe in our Strawberry Apple Pie Exfoliating Masque, or eat alone for an on-the-glow snack!

Ingredients

  • 4 Granny Smith Apples, peeled and chopped
  • ¾ cup water
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup Coconut Nectar | high in enzymes, low glycemic index

Directions

  1. In a saucepan, combine apples, water, Coconut Nectar, and cinnamon.

  2. Cover, and cook over medium heat for 15 to 20 minutes, or until apples are soft.

  3. Allow to cool, then mash with a fork or potato masher.

DIY Masque: Cinnamon Detox

DIY Masque: Cinnamon Detox

This mask is detoxifying but it also has moisturizing properties since honey is a natural humectant. Cinnamon speeds up your skin’s regeneration and is antiseptic, making it a powerful anti-aging and purifying ingredient (if you’re pregnant, you may want to leave out this ingredient). Nutmeg gently exfoliates—with a delicious aroma.

1tsp of cinnamon
1tsp of nutmeg
2tbsp of organic manuka honey

Mix ingredients together in a bowl and then apply to damp, clean skin. Leave on for 20 minutes. Remove with a warm washcloth.
