#BEAUTYFOOD BITES: Tamari Lime Almonds for Soft Skin

#BEAUTYFOOD BITES: Tamari Lime Almonds for Soft Skin

Planning your next exotic getaway? Don’t forget to pack #beautyfoods for the plane! These tasty treats will keep you satisfied without the bloat that comes from in-flight snacks. Your skin will thank you, too: Almonds contain a combination of essential fatty acids, so important in maintaining healthy, supple skin. They also contain antioxidants, vitamin E, easily digested protein, calcium, and magnesium. Magnesium helps to counter the effects of stress, which can contribute to premature aging and aggravate acne.

The tangy, smoked flavor of these #beautyfood bites come from healthy sources, unlike most packaged snacks. The subtle sweetness comes from raw coconut nectar, a low-glycemic, mineral-rich source. Zesty lime provides vitamin C, giving your immune system a nice boost while keeping skin glowing. Sesame seeds are loaded with zinc, which produces collagen. Tamari is a fermented, wheat-free version of soy sauce which contains much less sodium than the commonly used variety. It also contains vitamin B3 (niacin), manganese, mood-enhancing tryptophan, and antioxidants.

Yield: 4 servings
Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:
1 cup raw unsalted almonds vitamin |  vitamin E for wrinkle fighting
1 tablespoon tamari | cell-building + firming
1 tablespoon raw coconut nectar | beauty minerals
½ lime, zested + juiced | vitamin C for anti-aging
1 tablespoon sesame seeds | zinc for collagen production

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Mix together tamari, lime zest, ½ lime juice and coconut nectar. Combine well.
  3. Add in the almonds, and mix to coat thoroughly.
  4. Spread an even layer on a baking sheet, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and bake until deep golden brown (approx. 15 minutes.)
  5. Remove from oven and cool completely before serving. Store in an airtight container.

The tamari will make the almonds appear darker, so keep a close eye on them to ensure they don’t over-cook. Bon appétit, beauties!

#BEAUTYFOOD BITES: Berry Bright Smoothie Bowl for Morning Glow

#BEAUTYFOOD BITES: Berry Bright Smoothie Bowl for Morning Glow

Take a few extra moments to savor your morning #beautyfood smoothie! How? By creating a frozen treat #beautyfood bowl packed with antioxidant powers. It’s like having skin-loving sorbet for breakfast!

The trick with these fabulous smoothie bowls is getting the right consistency. It helps to have all the frozen fruit roughly the same size, so they blend well. So here, slicing your strawberries before freezing will keep the texture even. Though a high-speed blender works well, if possible use a food processor for a smooth consistency. If you find the mixture a bit too soft, as can happen when fruit is extra juicy, just add some more frozen fruit.

Now, back to the good stuff: Vitamin-rich berries are the rock stars of anti-aging. They have among the highest amount of age fighting antioxidants of any foods. This combination of goji, strawberry, blueberry, and blackberry will make your skin glow, while protecting it from environmental stresses and helping to delay the visible signs of aging.

We may have hidden a good dose of nutritious spinach in amongst all the berries here, but you’ll never taste it! This delish bowl has added benefits of vitamins B2, B6, E, A, copper, magnesium, iron,  and zinc, so go ahead and enjoy, knowing you’re nourishing your skin with every bite.
